Grass Roots, the leading provider of global incentive and recognition programs for employees, channel partners and consumers, announced that it has received the coveted 2010 Kinetic Process Innovation Vision Award for excellence in performance improvement solutions that support customers in achieving business goals through recognition, incentive and rewards programs. Each year, the Vision Award is presented to one company for a technology achievement that exhibits the greatest potential for transforming a business or social process.
Grass Roots developed an 'out-of-box' employee motivation and team-building incentive program for Phones 4u, a European based independent mobile phone retailer with more than 450 retail stores and a staff of 5,500. Phones 4u, with its 'cutting-edge' reputation, looked to Grass Roots to develop a unique experience for its employees that would lead to increased revenues, productivity and overall profitability.
The Grass Roots solution was a customized program called "Stranded" (watch video), a 10-week game to encourage store performance. It would award one employee in each of the 40 top performing stores over the 10-week period the opportunity to compete as a "castaway" in Stranded's final showdown to be held on a remote island in the Bahamas. The program was created, deployed, tracked and reported using Grass Roots' performance improvement platform. The program also utilized both traditional and social media for communications tracking and updates.
A game of mental and physical endurance, Stranded's 40 castaways participated in nine events during three days on the island. Store employees back home were able to view the competition, day by day, via live video feed to Facebook. The Grand Prize was an all-expense paid trip to the Atlantis Hotel in Nassau for all of the employees in the store represented by the overall winner of the island competition.
Grass Roots also worked closely with the company to build out the theme of the program, including logos, collateral, equipment and clothing. In advocating its mobile communications business, the communications involved with Stranded were high tech and the platforms used included a dedicated micro-site, SMS messaging, 'You Tube' and 'Facebook' communities, face-to-face briefings, as well as a launch video and collateral marketing packet. Additionally Grass Roots created a blog for Stranded to show what the participants were doing each day.
"We were thrilled not only to have had the opportunity to develop Stranded with Phones 4u, but also to have achieved such success that Phones 4u has launched another Stranded campaign with us that concludes next month," said Stephen Humphreys, Grass Roots president & CEO for the Americas. "Phones 4u was willing to be highly creative in deploying our platform and methodologies to meet the business objectives and to create real life-changing experiences for their employees. We couldn't be more pleased that Stranded has been recognized by the Kinetic Process Innovation Award judges."
"The Vision Award is presented to a company that shows exceptional creativity and thoughtfulness in implementing a technology that significantly changes a business process and creates real results," said High Tech Views Deputy Editor Drew Barrows. "Phones 4u and Grass Roots certainly have set the bar high for employee incentive programs and we couldn't be happier to recognize their achievements this year."
